Republic of Mauritius- MRA Drugs worth Rs 22 million seized at SSR International Airport

GIS – 05 November, 2019: Drugs worth Rs 22 million have been seized on Sunday 27 October 2019 on two passengers who were intercepted at the SSR International Airport by officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).  They have purged 135 pellets of heroin.


The passengers, a 44-year-old Zimbabwean and a 40-year-old Mozambican, confessed having swallowed pellets of heroin in South Africa prior to their departure for Mauritius. They arrived on board the Air Mauritius flight MK 846 from Durban, South Africa, and they were leaving the SSR Airport through the Green Channel when they were intercepted. Upon questioning, they declared that they were tourists and that they were expected to stay at a hotel in Belle Mare.

 

Following intensive questioning, they confessed that they had swallowed pellets of heroin. The passengers were then handed over to the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU).
