Republic of Mauritius- 7th November 2019 proclaimed Polling Day

GIS – 07 October, 2019: November 7th 2019 has been proclaimed Polling Day and 22nd October as Nomination Day following the writs of election issued on 06th October by the Acting President of the Republic, Mr Paramasivum Pillay Vyapoory, in pursuance of the powers vested in him under section 4 (1) of the Representation of the People Act.

The Acting President of the Republic acted upon the advice of the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

Moreover, in accordance with section 57(1) of the Constitution and upon advice of the Prime Minister, the Acting President also issued a Proclamation providing for the dissolution of the National Assembly as from 06th October 2019.

In his address to the nation on October 06th, the Prime Minister appealed to the population to fulfill this democratic right as a citizen in the best conditions and in order and discipline which he said, have always been a pride for the country.

The Office of the Electoral Commissioner will be responsible for the entire process regarding the holding of the general elections which are being held every five years in Mauritius. It will be noted that the last general elections were held in December 2014.
