Raphael Varane had an evening to forget at the Nou Camp as Barcelona appeared to add injury to the insult Real Madrid‘s 3-0 defeat.

The France international was part of Santiago Solari’s side that was swept away in the second-leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final, losing 4-1 on aggregate to their fierce rivals.

It was a difficult evening enough for the 25-year-old, who put through his own goal to give Ernesto Valverde’s men a commanding two goal lead.

But after the match he revealed that there was healthy dose of physical pain to sit alongside the mental anguish of losing to your closest rivals.

Varane posted a picture of his left knee, which he injured trying to prevent Luis Suarez from scoring, only to inadvertently divert the ball into his own net.

Stud marks were clear on the joint, which had two chunks of skin taken away in what appeared a nasty injury.

Like the rest of his team-mates, however, the defender will have to get up and dust himself back down for an immediate rematch.

The pair go head-to-head once more in La Liga on Saturday, with Solari’s men currently nine points adrift of Messi and co.
