This Festival, an annual event organised in the context of the International Creole Day, aims at showcasing the authenticity of the Creole culture through local music, arts, language and cuisine.
The Minister pointed out that for this year, fourteen activities are scheduled, including the launching of a new activity which is a comedy show in Creole. Moreover, the Ministry of Tourism, he stated, is currently in consultation with the Metro Express Ltd to draw graffiti on the walls of the Metro Express station. A Haitian Minister and the President of the Guadeloupe Museum of Slavery have also been invited in the context of FIK 2019, he indicated.
Other activities that will be organised during the Festival are, namely: a ‘Soiree Poezi’ at the Château Labourdonnais in Mapou to illustrate the beauty and the richness of the Creole language; a concert, ‘Sega Lontan’, at the Père Laval Stadium in Ste Croix with the participation of local sega pioneers to revive the traditional sega; Limour Kreol at Port Louis Waterfront’s Old Mill Museum; and, a conference with international and local speakers at the Intercontinental Hotel in Balaclava.
FIK will also comprise the following: a culinary exhibition and a regatta competition at Mahebourg Waterfront; an artistic exhibition at the Central Market of Port Louis; a ‘Sware Tipik’ at Le Morne Public Beach; and a ‘Sware Konser’ on 16 November 2019 from 18.00 hours to midnight to be held simultaneously at the Flacq Taxi Stand, at the Germain Comarmond Stadium, in Bambous, at the Municipal Council of Curepipe, and in Bain des Dames, Cassis.
