Newcastle are reportedly set to break their transfer record to bring in striker Joelinton from Hoffenheim.

According to Sport1, Newcastle are prepared to pay €60million (£52.1million) for the Brazilian, who has scored 10 goals in 28 appearances for Hoffenheim this season.

The report indicates that a deal could be completed early next week.

The Magpies only recently broke their longstanding transfer record when they paid £21million to bring in Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United last month.  

At the age of 22, Joelinton has time on his side to develop further and made a major impact for Hoffenheim this season.

JOELINTON’S RECORD THIS SEASON 

Bundesliga: 21 games, six goals, six assists

Champions League: Five games, one goal, one assist

DFP-Pokal: Two games, three goals, one assist

Total: 28 games, 10 goals, eight assists 

The prospect previously spent two seasons on loan with Austrian side Rapid Vienna.

Newcastle can already call upon various attacking options in Ayoze Perez, Salomon Rondon, Yoshinori Muto and Joselu.

However, Benitez’s side have found goals difficult to come by, as evidenced by the fact that they have only scored 22 times in the Premier League this season. 

Newcastle face Huddersfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
