Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette banned for both legs of Europa League round of 16 clash against Rennes following elbow against BATE Borisov

Alexandre Lacazette has been banned by UEFA for both legs of the GunnersEuropa League round of 16 clash against Rennes.

Lacazette was sent off in the first leg of Arsenal’s round of 32 game against BATE Borisov after he elbowed Aleksandar Filipovic.

The Frenchman missed the second leg against BATE and will now serve a further two-match ban.

Arsenal face Rennes away on March 7 before hosting the French side at Emirates Stadium on March 14.

With Danny Welbeck injured, Lacazette’s supension means that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the only senior striker available to Arsenal against Rennes, although the Gunners can also call upon youngster Eddie Nketiah.

Lacazette has scored 12 goals in 33 appearances for Arsenal this season, with one of those goals having come in the Europa League.

Having surprisingly lost 1-0 in the first leg against BATE, Arsenal responded to win 3-0 in the second leg on Thursday night and secure their place in the next stage of the competition.
