Republic of Mauritius- Activities to pay tribute to musical artist, late Joseph Réginald Topize

GIS 21 February 2019: The Ministry of Arts and Culture is organising a series of activities today at several places in Port Louis to pay tribute to musical artist, late Joseph Réginald Topize(Kaya).

The programme of activities comprised of cultural performances from noon to 13 00 hours by the Conservatoire National de Musique François Mitterand at the Esplanade of the Municipal Council of Port Louis; and the “Mo’Zar Espace Artistic” in front of Air Mauritius Building.

A forum/round table on the lyrics of Kaya organised by the Creole Speaking Union kicked off at 13 30 hours in the Council Room of the Municipal Council of Port Louis.

Furthermore, a musical performance will be held from 19 00 hours to 21 00 hours at the Port Louis Waterfront Esplanade, with the participation of artistic groups such as Dagger Kkila and the Soul Frequency, Blakkayo, Steeve Laridain, Soldat Zion, Darriana Amerally, Atelier Mo’zar, Eric Triton and La Nikita.

Joseph Réginald Topize, born on 10 August 1960, was professionally known by his stage name Kaya. The Mauritian musician created the “seggae“, a fusion of Mauritian sega and reggae; two of the most popular music genres in Mauritius.
