British heavyweight Joe Joyce has warned Jarrell Miller that antagonising Anthony Joshua is not the best tactic ahead of their world title bout.

Miller and Joshua face off at Madison Square Gardens on June 1, with their first press conference on Tuesday in New York proving to be a fiery affair.

New York native Miller heavily shoved Joshua as they faced off, before referring to the Watford-born fighter as an ‘Uncle Tom’, among other insults.

The usually calm Joshua dropped his mask and promised to knock Miller ‘the f*** out’ – and Joyce, who was a team mate of Joshua in the GB Olympic boxing team and has sparred with him in training camps, says the American has made a mistake by angering the Briton.

Joyce, 33, said: ‘It got a bit tasty. It’s in him, he used to be a bouncer and a bit of a street kid so he has that side to him and it just came out.

‘Being angry makes him even more dangerous, especially when he starts swinging those big arms around, but it has got people talking about his New York debut, it is going to be a good fight.

‘His image has been polished but this has got people talking and the US boxing fans will be out in force.

‘I never really saw the street-kid side to him when he were in training, he was usually always laughing and joking, he is a cool guy. but if you push the wrong with him or he hasn’t eaten and is a bit hungry then maybe he gets like that. Don’t we all.’

Joyce was speaking after his Wednesday press conference ahead of fighting Bermane Stiverne on Saturday at the O2 – which also descended into chaos.

Stiverne boiled over after Joyce’s manager Sam Jones accused him of backing out of a previous sparring session. The Haiti heavyweight had to be restrained by security officials as he threatened to ‘slap the s*** out’ of Jones.
