Seven additional gold medals for Mauritius in weightlifting

GIS – 26 July 2019: The Mauritius team performed brilliantly, yesterday, during the finals of the weightlifting competition of the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) 2019, held at the Dr James Burty David Gymnasium in Curepipe. Several personalities including the Minister of Public Infrastructure and Land Transport, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Nandcoomar Bodha, and the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr Eddy Boissézon, were present.

 

In the women’s category, Mauritian athlete Shalinee Valaydon (+87kg) came out in the first position with a lift of 93 kg in the snatch, 110 kg in the clean and jerk and 203 kg total, bagging three gold medals. Anastajia Babet (-81 kg) won a silver medal with a lift of 61 kg in the snatch and a bronze medal for 131 kg total.  As for Joycemee Agathe (-87 kg), she won three silver medals ( 61 kg in snatch, 70 kg clean and jerk and 131 kg total).

 

Mauritian Athlete Yovin Gyadin( -+109kg) bagged three gold medals by successfully lifting 116kg in snatch, 131 kg in  clean and jerk and 247 kg total. Khelwin Juboo (-109kg) also won a gold medal with a 165 kg performance in clean and jerk.  Meanwhile, Alvin Jooron (-102 kg) , earned three bronze medals with 95 kg in snatch, 140 kg in the clean and jerk, 235 kg total.
