Mauritius qualifies for the finals of volleyball in men’s categories by winning against Reunion Island

GIS – 26 July, 2019: Mauritius won against Reunion Island in the semi-finals of Volleyball with a score of 3-2 in the men’s categories. The matches were played in full fervour, yesterday, at the Pandit Sahadeo Gymnasium in Vacoas in the presence of the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth.

The first set was won by the Mauritian team with a score of 25 to 22 while the second set saw a more aggressive comeback of the Reunion Island team, bringing the match to a draw of 1-1 with the same score of 25 to 22. The Mauritius Volleyball men’s team defeated Reunion Island in three sets, sealing the victory of 3-2 with a score of 15 to 10 for the tie-break set and qualified for the finals.

On the other hand, the Mauritius Volleyball women’s team was defeated by Seychelles with a winning score of 1-3. The first set was won by the Seychelles team with a score of 25 to 19 while the second set saw a more aggressive comeback of the Mauritian team, bringing the match to a draw of 1-1 with a score of 25 to 19.

Despite its battle to qualify for the finals, the Mauritian team did not manage to increase the score line. The Seychelles won both third and fourth sets with a score of 25 to 22 and 25 to 20 respectively, hence qualifying for the finals.

It is recalled that the other teams who qualified for the finals are Madagascar, in both men’s and women’s categories. In women’s categories, Madagascar battled its way to the finals by winning against Reunion Island to a score of 3-2 while for men’s categories, the Malagasy team won against Seychelles to a score of 3-1.
