Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has admitted he ‘cried for two days’ after re-breaking his metatarsal bone in his right foot last month.

Neymar is currently receiving further treatment on the problem and has been given a timescale of at least seven weeks, having sustained the injury in PSG’s French Cup win over Strasbourg in January.

The Brazilian’s World Cup participation last summer was almost jeopardised by the same injury but he has revealed this latest blow ‘is more complicated’ and has left a mental scar.

‘This time I had a tough time getting over it,’ the 27-year-old told Brazilian TV channel Globo.

‘I spent two days at home crying. The first time I hurt myself I said, “I’ll have an operation, it has to be fixed as quickly as possible”. I wasn’t sad.’

Neymar had tests on the injury in Barcelona last month and it was decided the problem would be dealt with by PSG’s medical staff as opposed to having another surgery.

The forward missed PSG’s first-leg win over Manchester United in the Champions League last week due to the injury and has also been ruled out of featuring in the return leg on March 6.

He is however hopeful of recovering in time to play in the quarter-final stage with PSG already having one foot in the next round after a 2-0 victory at Old Trafford.
