President of the Regional Council of Reunion Island meets Prime Minister Jugnauth

In a statement after the meeting, Mr Didier Robert lauded the excellent work undertaken by the Mauritian Government in hosting the Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) 2019 in the best conditions. He pointed out that IOIG  2019 is an important regional event and that the Reunion Island Team is participating in the Games by abiding to the core Olympics values of respect, friendship and fair play. 

Mr Robert expressed confidence as regards the good performance of the athletes of Reunion Island team, which he said, has been engaging in intense training over the last few years. He added that the team has already performed excellently by winning its first football match played against the Maldives, held, today , at the Auguste Vollaire Stadium in Flacq.

Moreover, he indicated that he discussed with Prime Minister Jugnauth, avenues of economic cooperation and mutual development for both Islands. Another topic of discussion, he added, was the Metro Express project , as Reunion island also intends to undertake a similar project to revolutionise its transport system. He explained that the Project Run Rail will connect Saint-Denis to Sainte-Marie.
