An Italian journalist who attended the game has claimed that travelling supporters were ambushed by fans of the home team less than a mile away from the stadium.

Journalist Carlo Alvino called the attack ‘cowardly and wrote on social media: ‘Cowardly attack on Napoli fans. Cars with Italian number-plates surrounded and attacked. It wasn’t far from the stadium.’
