GIS – 04 July, 2019: The podiums, medals, and outfits for the forthcoming Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) 2019 were unveiled, yesterday, during a ceremony held in Bagatelle. The trays for the medals as well as the certificates which will be handed over to participants were also displayed on that occasion.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint, the Chief Executive Officer of the 2019 IOIG’s organising committee, Mr Jean-Pierre Sauzier, and other personalities were present.

A total of 5 500 medals have been made by the Karl Ray Ltd for the IOIG 2019: 550 Gold, 550 Silver and 580 Bronze. The remaining medals will be given as a token to participants.

Speaking at the event, Minister Toussaint expressed satisfaction with regard to the podiums, the medals and other related items that have been locally manufactured by the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). He stated that SMEs should be further encouraged in their endeavours to promote locally made products. As the multi-sports event is nearing, each and every citizen of the country is invited to get into the spirited mood and support the Mauritian team, he said.

For his part, Mr Sauzier highlighted that the medals which will be awarded to athletes symbolically demonstrate their rigorous hardwork. These medals, he added, will be a memorable reward for their remarkable performance in the IOIG 2019.
