In this week’s list of hot hotel openings, we’re looking at Radisson Collection’s debut in England, Nobu’s latest property in Barcelona, lavish tents in Namibia and more.

The May Fair Hotel

The May Fair Hotel

Radisson Hotel Group has announced that The May Fair Hotel, an iconic London property, has become the first in England to join the group’s compilation of premium lifestyle properties.

The hotel became a playground for London’s high society following a tour of inspection by King George V and Queen Mary in the Roaring 20s. Later, it was owned by Hollywood impresarios, the Danziger brothers, when the hotel took to new heights.

Today, while its Baccarat chandeliers remain, the hotel has transformed into a contemporary boutique getaway – known for its timeless elegance and charm.

“The May Fair Hotel could not be a better fit”

Federico J. González-Tejera, president & CEO of Radisson Hospitality AB and chairman of the Radisson Hotel Group Global Steering Committee, said: “From its unbeatable location to its culinary flair and luxurious wellness facilities, everything about The May Fair Hotel is set up to deliver an exceptional guest experience.

“We created Radisson Collection with the ambition to bring our guests a unique global collection of hotels that offer an exceptional experience of effortless, contemporary living — while making sure each property reflects the individual character of its location.

“In this respect, The May Fair Hotel could not be a better fit.”

Nobu Hotel Barcelona

Nobu Hotel Barcelona

Nobu Hotel Barcelona, a member of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts Collection, will open its doors this September. Home to 259 stylish rooms and suites, a 150sqm Nobu Suite, a spa and gym as well as tailor-made meeting and event spaces, the hotel will house the city’s first Nobu Restaurant, along with the Japanese inspired tapas bar, Kozara.

The interiors, conceptualised by architecture and design firm Rockwell Group blend Japanese minimalism with the colourful character of Barcelona.

Sonop Namibia

Sonop Namibia

Nestled on the Southern edge of the Namibian desert in the Karas region within an extraordinary Nature Reserve, Sonop is created in the form of a luxurious tented camp constructed on top of boulders.

Ten lavish tents invite guests to live the life of yesteryear’s wealthy explorers from the early 20th-century. Just like those travellers who traded their beloved homes for the bare Namibian desert dunes, the guests of Sonop will get a taste of living in complete isolation while enjoying the comfort of their accommodation.

The hotel is scheduled to open in July 2019.

Academia of Athens

Academia of Athens

Autograph Collection Hotels, part of Marriott International, has announced the opening of its newest addition, Academia of Athens.

Inspired by ancient Greek philosophers’ wisdom, historical landmarks, and the vibrant culture of the contemporary city, Academia of Athens combines the heritage of the city with a bold and modern exterior.

The hotel features 60 guestrooms and suites, a restaurant bar, lounge bar, and spa, each offering visual cues from ancient Greek scholar Plato’s Three Orders: Science, Philosophy and Art, with these principles brought to life throughout various spaces within the hotel.
