SME Mauritius Ltd, he said is committed to support and facilitate the development of entrepreneurship and SMEs and to make the SME sector a key pillar in the socio-economic development of Mauritius. He recalled that the organisation is working in close collaboration with some 12 strategic partners namely Business Mauritius, Development Bank of Mauritius, Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mauritius Standards Bureau, amongst others to ensure the provision of the Schemes to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

The aim, he indicated, is aligned with the goals stipulated in Vision 2030 and SME 10 Year Master Plan as well to act as the main catalyst in providing collaborative platforms to SMEs and support the SMEs ecosystem. As for year 2018-2019, various incentives have been put in place to boost the sector, he said. Presently some 998 persons have benefited from these Schemes while other applications are being processed. Other measures comprise organisation of regional fairs, three in Mauritius and three in Rodrigues, and nine sectoral meetings; public interventions; media events; and capacity building and training.

According to Mr Rampersad, Coromandel will soon become the nucleus of SMEs in the near future as it will be endowed with several business facilitation centres namely an incubation unit, a regional design laboratory, an observatory, a centre of exposition and marketing and a registered training centre.
