Republic of Mauritius- Education Minister urges youth to show interest in Science and Technology

She was speaking at the handing-over ceremony of an air ticket to the Mauritian nominee of the 69 edition of the Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting, Mr Yaaseen Baulacky, at the MITD House in Phoenix. The Lindau Nobel Laureates meeting is convened each year with the objective of fostering exchange and sharing of knowledge among scientists of different generations, cultures, and disciplines.This year’s meeting is scheduled from 30 June to 05 July 2019 in Germany.

Minister Leela Devi Dookun-Luchoomun further said that the Lindau meeting will contribute to enhancing the visibility of Mauritius in the field of academics as well as promote the country as an education hub of high quality at the international front. She observed that such endeavours are pivotal to uplift the education sector in Mauritius and to prove that the local youth have great potentials to harness particularly in the fields of innovation and research.

According to her, participating in this international platform is an opportunity to acquire more knowledge about the field of physics and to share what Mauritius has to give in the field of science. She added that this empowering experience will enable the Mauritian representative to promote dissemination of knowledge and innovative ideas to advance the goals of research on the local landscape.

Government, she reiterated, wants to ensure that the youth, without any distinction, access technology and acquire necessary competencies and experiences to be at par with their foreign peers. She congratulated the nominee for his dedication and hard work in the field of Physics that has culminated in this extraordinary opportunity and privilege of participating in this international platform.

Lindau Nobel Laureates Meeting 2019

The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, set up in 1951, which has become an annual feature, aims at bringing together young scientists from all over the world to meet and interact with Nobel Laureates. This year’s meeting in Germany will focus on the topics of dark matter and cosmology, laser physics and gravitational waves.

The objective is to provide a platform for close interaction between the young researchers and Nobel Laureates and for the transfer of knowledge between scientists of different generations, cultures and disciplines. The scientific programme of each Lindau Meeting is based on the principle of dialogue. The different sessions including lectures, discussions, master classes and panel discussions are designed to activate the exchange of ideas and experience among the participants.

This year’s meeting will bring together some 600 international young scientists from 89 countries. The opportunity to join the annual gathering of Nobel Laureates at Lindau is provided exclusively to outstanding young scientists – undergraduates, PhD students, and post-doc researchers. In order to participate in the meeting, they have to pass a multi-step application and selection process.
