GIS 03 June  2019: The Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG) 2019 official song, Tamtam Dan Zil, was launched on Friday 31 May 2019 at Serge Constantin Theatre, in Vacoas, in the presence of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint.  The Minister of Technology, Communication and Innovation, Mr Yogida Sawmynaden, and the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr. Eddy Boissézon were also present.

The song, a creation of the music group Kokofaya, is composed in Creole by Mr Jerry Constance and performed by singer Thallie Ann Seenyen.  Tamtam Dan Zil, seeks to evoke the enthusiasm of Mauritians and celebrates the union as well as the solidarity and fraternity among participating islands.

It is recalled that the song was selected following a contest launched by the IOIG’s organising committee in January 2019.

The tenth edition of the IOIG, a multi-sports event held every four years among athletes from Indian Ocean islands, is being hosted from 19 to 28 July 2019 in Mauritius.  Sportsmen and sportswomen from Indian Ocean islands will compete for medals across 14 different sports disciplines.

The IOIG aims at contributing to regional cooperation through the development of sports in the region; and, building friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the islands of the Indian Ocean, in the spirit of the Olympics.
