35 newly recruited Case Management Officers receive certificates

The Minister of Social Integration and Economic Development, Mr Alain Wong, the Director General of the CSCM, Professor Ramesh Durbarry, and other personalities were present on that occasion.

In his keynote address, Minister Alain Wong highlighted that the CSCM has been set up with the objective to help the training and development needs of public officers at all levels as well as local authorities and parastatal bodies. Since its creation, the CSCM has trained thousands of civil servants with determination and commitment, he added.

As regards case management, Mr Wong highlighted that it is not only an approach designed to meet the complex needs of our targeted group of intervention, that is, NEF beneficiaries, but is also a strategy for providing best practice service delivery to the latter.

Speaking about Government’s philosophy concerning its fight against poverty, Minister Wong underscored that it is not only limited to the provision of financial allowances, facilities and services to people in need. He also added that the fundamental role of his Ministry is not only to help people living under the poverty line, but also to ensure that they have the adequate means and resources to overcome this difficult situation, to lift their families out of poverty, and give them back a dignified and human life.

The Minister recalled that at 31st January 2019, the Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Development has disbursed more that

Rs 450 million as subsistence allowance for families who are in need, in addition to all the social aids and facilities to allow them to standon their own feet.

Addressing the newly recruited CMOs, the Minister pointed out that their role is to assist people living in poverty with honesty, 

willingness, commitment and respect adding that as CMOs, they have the mission to help the Ministry achieve its goals and objectives 

without losing sight of Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations whose objective is to ensure that by 2030 the incidence of poverty has decreased by 100 %.

For his part, Professor Durbarry underlined that it is a great privilege to engage in the field of case management so as to relieve sufferings and improve the general standard of living of the needy. The induction course, he recalled, was meant to introduce CMOs with the necessary tools and skills in understanding their roles to develop their ability to work at local community level and, essentially, to adopt the appropriate behavior in dealing with vulnerable people living in deprived regions.

The Director General of the CSCM urged the CMOs to be dedicated in their work and to help those vulnerable people as they will be the frontliners, who will be spending their time doing home visits and interacting with the community at large. Furthermore, he appealed the CMOs to offer a high quality service and to respect the code of ethics for public officers when working with the public as well as to use their position as a tool to effect change on a real level for a family, a community or an organisation.

The training

The training was addressed to 35 newly recruited CMOs with the aim to assist them in their new job assignments, and help them become familiar with their new work environment and to the existing employees and management. A basic overview of the functioning of NEF, its services provided to beneficiaries as well as CMOs responsibilities within the Foundation were also included. CMOs are given the responsibility to increase the number of families empowered, ultimately decreasing the number of vulnerable families.
